Cultivation of this rice dates to the beginning of 16th Century, it is the first cereal in the world with a Denomination of Origin, obtained in 1986, with the objective of guaranteeing its authenticity to the costumer in terms of origin and quality, as well as safeguarding the interests of local producers. The good name and prestige of Calasparra's rice is the result of the quality of its varieties Bomba and Balilla X Sollana, as well as the ancestral agricultural practices used by farmers.
